After the Career is published by Rarified Life, the company behind the Preferment framework for life after a career.

It exists to help accomplished women in their 50s and 60s think clearly about identity, purpose and practical next steps as their careers end, and to point them to Rarified Life's free presentation and 8-week Preferment course when those fit.

Who publishes After the Career?

Rarified Life publishes this site. It is one of a small number of websites Rarified Life publishes, each focused on a different question. This one focuses on life after a career for accomplished women. The main business website is rarifiedlife.com.

Because Rarified Life sells the Preferment course, this site is not independent. Where we compare options, such as in our guide to retirement coaching options, we say so on the page and explain our criteria in our methodology.

What Rarified Life does

Rarified Life offers the Preferment framework, a research-backed approach for high achievers to redesign life after 50 as an active, purpose-driven alternative to traditional retirement. It helps people align future plans with personal values and cultivate meaningful pursuits beyond their careers.

Preferment is taught through an 8-week live course led by Anne van Leynseele, who wrote the book it is built on. Anne built and sold a Los Angeles film and television production company, advised Fortune 100 companies on digital strategy across three continents, served as an Attorney Advisor in the Obama Administration, helped write Washington State's recreational cannabis legal framework, and co-owns an award-winning chocolate farm on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Rarified Life lists Edmonds, Washington, and a PO Box in Captain Cook, Hawaii. Books and 1:1 coaching are listed as coming soon. To get in touch, use the Rarified Life contact page.
